Tokyo – New York Stem Cell Summit

“Tokyo-New York Stem Cell Summit” was jointly held by Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), the Institute of Medical Science (IMSUT), and New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) on September 8, 2017 at NYSCF Research Institute which is 15-minutes walking distance from our UTokyo New York Office. The summit provided a great opportunity for the participants from academia and industry to learn updates in the field of stem cell biology, and to socially interact and discuss with colleagues.

The Summit started by opening remarks by Susan L. Solomon, NYSCF CEO. Hiromitsu Nakauchi, MD, PhD (IMSUT) and Kevin C. Eggan, PhD (Harvard University) provided keynote lectures. Valentina Fossati, PhD (NYSCF), Toshio Kitamura, MD, PhD (IMSUT), Scott Noggle, PhD (NYSCF), Daniel Paull, PhD (NYSCF), and Shoji Takeuchi, PhD (IIS) presented recent stem cell-related findings and research progress. A panel discussion was held after the lectures, and the speakers discussed recent progress and current challenges for making artificial tissues from stem cells. The panel discussion was interactive, and received many questions from participants. The Summit ended with closing address by Teruo Fujii, PhD, IIS Director General.
