UTokyoNY Event “Garden of Excess”Held

SEKISUI HOUSE – KUMA LAB has long offered the International Design Studio as part of the Department of Architecture. In collaboration with Professor Jesse Reiser of Princeton University’s School of Architecture, the Japan Studio has been conducted over many years as a graduate-level design studio involving multiple universities.

This year’s International Design Studio saw six master’s students tackle a project focused on the themes of ecology and artificial intelligence in architecture.

In conjunction with a joint poster session held at Princeton University, six studio students from the University of Tokyo presented their work on January 22. The session featured distinguished architects from New York serving as guest critics.

During the critique session, discussions centered on the numerous possibilities and challenges of incorporating artificial intelligence—primarily image-generating AI—into architectural design.

Guest Critics:

  • Mireia Luzárraga (Columbia University)
  • Lydia Kallipoliti (Columbia University)
  • Taku Samejima (SHoP Architects)
  • Kazuki Masaki (Mark Foster Gage Architects)
