To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Earthquake Research Institute (ERI) in 2025, a commemorative event was held at the NY office of the University of Tokyo. With the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, we have been conducting joint research in the fields of seismology, geodesy, properties of the Earth’s interior, etc. The 100th anniversary ceremony, research seminar and general lectures were held from December 16 to 19, 2024.

Out of ~40 attendees, 15 were from ERI, with 7 early career scientists and graduate students participated. On the Lamont side, more than half of ~20 participants were young researchers.  It was a great success that young researchers were able to actively interact with each other. We believe that this was an important step toward promoting researcher exchanges and joint research as needed in the future.
