On Monday, May 13, 2024, a joint event between Columbia University (CU) and the University of Tokyo (UT) was held at the University of Tokyo’s New York Office. This event aimed to enhance collaboration and visibility in data science and nursing care quality, marking the first event held at the New York Office with Columbia University. The event included a special lecture, research example presentations, and group work in workshops. Both in-person and online participants actively engaged, making the event a great success. In the special lecture, Director Yamamoto-Mitani, Prof. Nakagami, and Prof. Miyo introduced nursing and data science in Japan. From Columbia University, Prof. Taylor, Prof. Alexander, Dr. Poghosyan, and Dr. Barcelona introduced their respective research centers, discussing possibilities for future collaborations.

In the research example session, Lecturer Takahashi, Assistant Prof. Kugai, Assistant Prof. Yasaka, and Senior Researcher Nishi from the National Center for Global Health and Medicine in Japan presented their work.
Prof. Bakken from Columbia University introduced the Center for Community-Engaged Health Informatics and Data Science. During the workshop, participants exchanged ideas about clinical issues, data sources, and potential funding sources, exploring future collaboration opportunities.

By the end of the event, several participants identified specific research themes with collaboration potential with Columbia University, laying the groundwork for future ongoing partnerships.
