The Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) of the University of Tokyo held the UTokyo-IIS Seminar in UTokyoNY ” Delivering the Vision – Closing the gap between academic research and society ” on June 13 (early morning of June 14, Japan time).
The seminar aimed to introduce various activities that promote further research and innovation through interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration among researchers, engineers, designers, and supporters of research, with a focus on the boundary between life sciences and engineering. The speaker at this seminar was Professor Miles Pennington, Associate Professor Yoshiho Ikeuchi, and Associate Professor Yoshiyuki Kawazoe of the Institute of Industrial Science, as well as online speaker Teruo Fujii, President of the University of Tokyo.
Following opening remarks by UTokyoNY President Masaharu Masuyama and Director Toru Okabe of the Institute of Industrial Technology, a lively discussion ensued among the speakers with the aim of making research in academia more accessible to our society and providing new visions and values to modern society.
In addition to the participation of researchers, students, and alumni in the U.S., many people from Japan, the U.S., and other countries watched the online streaming in real time at the office, and the event ended with closing remarks by Professor Tomoya Yashiro of the Institute of Industrial Science.
